Dear Women of Color Anti-Violence, Social Justice, and Economic Justice Advocates:

I am pleased to announce that the Women of Color Network is hosting dynamic 1.5-day Economic Policy and Leadership Regional Forums for anti-violence, economic justice, and social justice advocates from May 15-16, 2013 in Madison, WI and July 17-18, 2013 in Phoenix, AZ. If you are based in the Midwest or West, we hope you will complete an application (attached here) to be considered for participation in a dynamic Regional Forum!

In this economic climate, how can we ensure survivors of violence, particularly women of color and underserved survivors, are not left behind?Come hear from experts and share your ideas at a Regional Forum to foster much-needed dialogue and advocacy response amongst anti-violence, economic justice, and social justice advocates.

The Regional Forums will be limited to 31 attendees with 25 advocates from OVW-supported programs and 6 non-OVW funded economic and social justice advocates. OVW grantees will utilize OVW training and travel funds to attend; limited travel and boarding scholarships will be available only for non-OVW grantees accepted to participate in the Regional Forum. All participants MUST be based in organizations located in a Midwestern State (IA, IL, IN, MO, KS, MI, MN, ND, OH, SD, or WI) for the Midwest forum and Western State or Territory (AK, AZ, CA, CO, ID, HI, MT, NM, NV, OR, UT, WA, WY, American Samoa, Guam, or the Northern Mariana Islands) for the West forum.

On the first day from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. and the second day from 8:30 a.m.-1 p.m., the Regional Forum will consist of panels, workshops, and brainstorming sessions to develop policy recommendations related to building and strengthening a safety net for women of color survivors in the following five arenas: Institutional bias and affect on services; Advocacy inclusion as part of our work; Re-entry populations; Tribal sexual assault; and, U & T-Visas. The Regional Forum will offer a mix of information-sharing on economic justice and survivors of violence as well as opportunities for contributing to policy recommendations while developing advocacy and leadership skills.

To be considered for the pool of attendees for the relevant Regional Forum, please complete the appropriate OVW or non-OVW advocate application attached here. We look forward to hearing from you and working together for a stronger community!

Thank you for all your work to advance survivor security and build stronger communities!

Warmly,
